Thessaloniki (Greek: Θεσσαλονίκη), historically also known as Thessalonica, Salonika or Salonica, is the second-largest city in Greece and the capital of the region of Central Macedonia as well as the capital of the Decentralized Administration of Macedonia and Thrace. Its honorific title is Συμπρωτεύουσα (Symprotévusa), literally "co-capital", and stands as a reference to its historical status as the Συμβασιλεύουσα (Symvasilévousa), "co-reigning" city of the Byzantine Empire, alongside Constantinople.

In 1974 was erected on very waterfront of Thessaloniki, near another town's landmark - White Tower - equestrian statue of Alexander the Great on his famous horse Bucephalus. Author of the statue is Greek sculptor Vangelis Moustakas. Alexander the Great was born in 356 B.C. in Pella, Macedonia in Greece and info some people tend to forget ;)

Info A weekend in Thessaloniki- This beautiful city is Greece’s 2nd largest, located in the north. Thessaloniki had everything I could ever dream of- fashion, water, night life, delicious gyros, pastry shops on every corner, and beautiful ruins. |
